The basics

General questions

Is LENS safe?
It uses an extremely low intensity signal, far weaker than a mobile phone emits, and the technology is FDA cleared. Most people feel nothing at all during a session.
Do I need a referral?
No. You can book a free consultation directly, and we will tell you honestly whether we think we can help.
Will this replace my medical care?
No. Our sessions support brain and nervous system wellness. They do not replace advice from your physician, and we never ask you to change medication.
Is it suitable for children?
Yes, we work with children, teenagers and adults. Sessions are brief, and a parent stays with younger clients throughout.
Where are you based?
We are on Trousdale Drive in Nashville, easy to reach from I-65 and I-24, with parking at the door.

By concern

Questions about specific difficulties

Anxiety

Will I have to stop my medication?
No. We never ask you to change anything your prescriber has put in place. Any medication decisions stay between you and your doctor, and many clients continue exactly as they are.
How soon might I notice a difference?
It varies. Some people feel calmer or sleep better after one or two sessions. Others notice it first through feedback from family who say they seem lighter. We review progress with you throughout.
Do I have to talk about what caused my anxiety?
Only if you want to. LENS does not require you to revisit difficult memories. Some clients pair sessions with counselling, others do not.

Stress and burnout

Is burnout really something you can help with?
We support the nervous system patterns that keep people stuck in exhaustion. We are not a substitute for medical care, and if something else needs ruling out we will say so.
How often would I come in?
Most people start with one session per week. Because the visits are short, they tend to fit around work rather than adding to the load.
What if I cry or feel emotional?
That is welcome here. Your practitioner will sit with you, and nobody will rush you out the door.

ADHD and focus

Is this a replacement for ADHD medication?
No. We do not make medication recommendations. Many families use sessions alongside their current plan, and any changes are made with their prescriber.
What age do you work with?
Sessions are used with young children through to older adults. Because there is nothing to concentrate on, age is rarely a barrier.
Do you need a formal diagnosis?
No diagnosis is required to book. We support focus and regulation patterns whether or not a label is attached to them.

Sleep

What if I have sleep apnea?
Sleep apnea is a medical condition that needs proper assessment. If your history suggests it, we will encourage you to see a physician. Our sessions can sit alongside that care.
Will a session make me sleepy?
Some people feel pleasantly relaxed afterwards, others feel clear and alert. Both are normal.
How many sessions before I know?
Most people have a sense within the first three or four visits. We would rather tell you honestly that something is not working than keep booking you in.

Depression and low mood

What if I am in crisis?
If you are in immediate danger, please call 988 or 911. We are a wellness practice and are not set up for emergency mental health care.
Can I keep seeing my therapist?
Yes, and we encourage it. The two work well together.
Is this evidence based?
LENS technology is FDA cleared and has been used by practitioners worldwide since the 1990s. We are careful not to overstate results, and we talk honestly about what the research does and does not show.

Concussion and head injury

How long after an injury can I start?
People come to us weeks after an injury and also years later. Both are worth a conversation.
Should I see a doctor first?
Yes. Any head injury should be medically assessed. We work alongside that care, not instead of it.
Will it make my symptoms worse?
Occasionally people feel briefly tired after a session. We start with very short exposures precisely to avoid overloading a sensitive system.

Migraines and headaches

Do I stop my migraine medication?
Not unless your physician says so. Nothing we do requires a change to your prescriptions.
Can I come in during a migraine?
Most people prefer not to travel mid attack. We will find a time that works around your pattern.
What if my headaches have another cause?
New, severe or changing headaches need medical assessment first. Please see a physician before booking with us.

Memory and brain fog

Could this be something serious?
Memory changes can have many causes, some of which need medical assessment. Please speak with your physician as well as us.
Am I too old for this?
No. Sessions are used with people well into their eighties and require no effort or technology skills.
Can family come with me?
Absolutely. Many clients bring a partner or adult child to the first visit.
